Internal Medicine Residents

Priya Bhakta

Where are you from?
Payson, AZ.

Where did you go to Medical School?
St. George’s University.

Why did you choose NW Internal Medicine Residency?
As an AZ resident, I feel truly blessed to have the opportunity to train at a healthcare facility truly rooted in serving the Southern Arizona community. During medical school, I was able to spend some time at NW Hospital rotating alongside current residents. They showed me a strong sense of community and a place of belonging that helped me feel this program was the right fit for me!

What are your professional interests within Medicine?
As of now, I would like to gain the tools to become a strong hospitalist and master clinician, which makes me so excited to learn a little bit of everything! I am open to various fellowships and am hopeful to gain further experience within those specialties. Being at NW Healthcare, I will also be fortunate to work with medical students. Transitioning into the mentor role as a resident will be a fruitful journey and afford me a different perspective and new skills I hope to continue to sharpen along the way.

What are your interests or hobbies outside of Medicine?
My interests outside medicine are varied and include travelling, event planning and watching movies/shows. I also can’t forget Bollywood! I love spending time watching a nostalgic Bollywood movie! Other than that, I love spending time with my friends and my dog, Bella. She is the cutest golden retriever you’ll meet! She lives in Payson with my parents, so I love having a weekend off for a quick mountain getaway to see them all!

What are you most excited about for life in Tucson?
I’m thrilled about the opportunity to settle down in Tucson with my partner as he continues his fellowship in Heme/Onc! Not to mention the Tucson restaurant scene is thriving, and I am excited to try out all the Sonoran Cuisine! I am also looking forward to the warm weather – warmer than Payson yet cooler than Phoenix!

Favorite way to spend a day off?
My favorite way to spend a day off is to find the time to relax! I like to start my day slow by sleeping in and cooking a delicious breakfast. I’ll often find what events may be happening locally and try to attend them in the afternoon if possible. And finally, I like to end my day with a comforting dinner and a fun movie!

Top item on your “Bucket list”?
I would love to travel the world! But If I had to choose the top of that list it would have to be the Amalfi Coast, Italy. I am determined to make it there in the next three years!
